Animation 2D walk cycle

So this is another 2D exercise we had to do. I pretty much enjoy this exercise. At first I had loads of trouble trying to get the movement right but as the lecturers said, reference always help.
The distract walk
The reference I use here was just a normal walk. Once I am happy with the normal wall movement , I then added a few more and tweak them a bit. The bending of the knees, the movement of the arm. Coudl say that this would be someone who's distracted by  a scene from the side or the basic" oh look! a bird" distraction.

The flirty walk
It took some time to explain to my flat mate to do a reference for this one. I had to play around with the movement on my own since the reference vid was just my model doing a simple cat walk. What I focus on was the movement of the shoulders, hips and the toe pointing. Was quite happy with the end results and I added a blow kiss motion as well as a " hey there" wave. :D

The happy walk

Aagain , I use the same reference vid from the ditract walk and added extra moment. the first thing that came in mind was a skip which I did ended up adding to the animation. I quite like the skip, thought the timing of it was a bit slow. That something I'll have to work on as I progress. So far I quite like working on movement as a lose sketch. It easy to exaggerated movements that way.

Background practice and personal designs

So here is another quick scribble of the forest. Not sure if I'm quite happy with the style just yet, I like the mysterious Autumn mood it gives and I may keep the colour reference for further practice. I'm still having trouble the the leaves on the trees. My previous practice had a better image of the leave so I might try and blend the two styles together.

Personal designs

This is Aby ,the shapeshifter
I was in the mood for pretty disturbing and grotesque character. I love playing around with her face.
Aby doesnt really smile but the lining of her mouth makes it like she's always smiling. she's quite timid thought that doesnt stop her from being creepy in her own way.

Practice 02

So I've been busy with the waltz with Bashir style for the group animation film. I took some of the painting style from the film and use it with my background practice
The end result was probably mixture of it and my own style. Experimenting with more colours, shading and textures. Though I'm still having trouble with the depth of the picture. I try using darker colours but I haven't tried to lighter colours for the fade into distance effects.

Scribbles and practice.

Personal practice

One of my main weakness is drawing without the line art. For this experiment I use just the brush tool with different brush head and textures. The cloud could have been a bit softer. I am quite happy with how the tree turn out and the leave colours, though I also need to find a light source since the shines all all over the place. The water was done last and I didnt put it as much time and thought. It looks a bit too solid in a way.

Some character designs practice. I've been playing around with brush tools, colour saturation and contrast. So far the effects are not quite to what i have in mind yet.

I was going for a shiny feel. The line art was plain and simple and I focus more on the colouring. The main tool I use here are the pen tool and air brush. Overlying colour works wonder in enhancing the colours without having to re-do it.

Sea project - Group 5

Project animation with the given sound clip. I as member of group , we got the sound clip about a surfer that tells a story about one of his surfing trips. The sound clips are about 30-060 seconds each. One the first week we had a few meetings, during those small session Katie, Charlotte ,George  and I decided that all of us are to go back and listen to the sound clip and come back with our own storyboard ideas. The next Monday we all showed each other our story board and from them we select the scene we think would work and form up a final draft for the animation storyboard.

I was assign the role of the story board artist. After another discussion , we wanted to have 2 animation style . One was style inspire by the animation movie Waltz with Bashir.

This would be the style for the beginning of the animation. We will be having the main surfer of the sound clip  be drawn in this style.
This is an experimental background and scene done by one of our member, Georgi. The last one was based on a real photo and was manipulate in a software just to give off a basic ideal of how similar we can get it to look like the inspired animation style.

Here is the overall image of how it would look like if we combine the 2D animation of the character and the 3D background. ( Done by Georgi ).

This is a basic character sheet for the second part of the animation for the main story line. When the guys tells us about hid trip. From the beginning of the animation with the Waltz of Bashire style

Pick up animation

Another animation practice. This time we are to animate a simple character picking up a heavy object. The character must show that they are struggling to pick up the object.
This took me sometime to get the character poster right. Mostly  the pauses and the body position. I draft out the character's back position, how it will straighten up as it stands still and bends over when they are tryin g to pick up the rock. What i need to practice more is keeping the character's shape and size constant as well as the character's positions on the same height because the feet seems to be in a different level each time I animate it . Suppose I need to draw the background line just to keep the character in check and makes sure that they dont look like they are walking on air.
